Amani House, Moshi, Tanzania

A delightful and eye opening afternoon.....

We had arranged before arriving to Tanzania to visit the Amani Children’s home. This center for rescuing children and restoring the lives that they have lost is truly amazing. At the moment there are approximately 59 boys and 1 girl living in the center. These numbers vary as children willingly leave or decide to find refuge at the center and in best case scenarios they are reunited with family members.

Through donations from around the world, the children are provided with food and shelter and medical care. Each day they are expected to participate in physical and educational activities but that they too gain knowledge in basic household chores to prepare them for life outside the home.
Amani children are very happy and have everything they need to grow. Pictured here, with very proud looks on their faces and big smiles, one of the favourite activities and one in which several of the boys enter competitions in is jump rope. It was a pleasure to watch them try out some of their new tricks for us.

Kathleen was kind enough to show us around the property which included the sleeping rooms, kitchen, classroom and outdoor play area. Several volunteers, from various parts of the world, run various programs to which the children are ready and willing to participate.

Knowing what happens to the thousands of children here to force them to leave their homes and fimilies to become homeless is tragic. Being able to see that there are organizations and people willing to make a difference for them is brilliant. Amani is committed to reducing the number of children living on the streets in Tanzania and giving them hope for a better future.

  1. The people that work at AMANI HOUSE are heroes! What they give every day to help these children... it's amazing... it's humbling...

I'll want to hear more about htis. Also, why the huge difference in numbers--59 boys to 1 girl???? I'm scared to ask why that is.

Be well and travel safe my darlings, Sister Voula.
