Moshi area, Tanazania

Since we returned from Safari the days has been quite busy with absolutely nothing. We have spent most of the days chilling out by the pool and just relaxing. In another few days it is time to start focusing on the climb to the mountain and get ready to beat the altitude. Yesterday’s absolutely-doing-nothing-agenda was too much and we decided to hire a local to take us on a walk thru the massive forest and local sites near by the Hotel. A three-hour walk midmorning and then back in the pool before the heat turned from hot to unbearable.

We started off just after 9am and headed out on a nice quite stroll towards the cemetery and the rice fields. Blue skies and the smell of green in the air. We crossed a small stream which we later got to know divided into many small man made streams to supply the rice fields and some few house holds. It is common practice that the women and children come to collect water in buckets every morning and because it is used as drinking water as well it is a big offence to carry out laundry here. There is a specific stream for the more polluted activities.

The forest was relative open in places and the famous blue monkey could be heard and seen swinging happily in the tree crowns. Some trees is more than 50 meters tall and 200 years old and gives a very nice protection from the burning sun. The goal for today was not to fall in the water as we passed many obstacles during our walk and some a bit challenging.

As we left the forest we got hit by a horrid stink and got to know that we were near Moshi garbage dump and literally there was trashed piled in an area bigger than three football fields. Plastic in millions and properly equal amount of rats.
Off we went and quite quickly as well.

We walked by the outskirts of town, passing school children in their green uniforms and had a laugh with them due to their very correct Oxford-English when they greeted us good morning. We continued along the railroad track and ended back at “Hotel Moshi Hilton” and went for a deserved swim in the pool and continued our absolutely-doing-nothing-agenda in Paradise.
